Golden, CO

Golden is snuggled beneath the foothills of Table Mountain and was discovered after prospectors found gold in the stream that flowed through the town.  Golden was previously the Colorado Territorial capitol.  One of the most exciting sites to visit is the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave because it overlooks both the Great Plains and the Rockies.  Visiting the city is an interesting day trip but do not plan on staying overnight because accommodations are expensive.
