Kuroishi

In Kuroishi, each season is enjoyable. In spring there are cherry blossoms, in summer there are various festivals, in autumn there are apples and the autumn colours, and in winter there are hot springs and plenty of snow. One of Kuroishi’s treasures is Komise, an arcade that was built hundreds of years ago in the Edo period. It is considered both an “Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings” and as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Roads”. Kuroishi is a place where the simplicity of a more historic Japanese townscape can be experienced. There are onsens not too far from the city centre where one can relax and recover. While visiting, you have to try “Kuroishi Yakisoba” which are fried noodles beloved throughout Japan. Kuroishi’s Yakisoba differs in that it uses much fatter noodles than traditional yakisoba. Parking in the arcade is limited, so it is best to visit early in the day, park in a garage, and travel on foot. The area is kid-friendly and sidewalks are huge for those traveling with a stroller.
