Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

Harpers Ferry is an attractive town with cobblestone streets and surrounded by the Shenandoah Mountains, along with the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. There are numerous museums that narrate the town’s role, including John Brown who attempted to spark a slave uprising which led to friction between the North and South.

Parking is extremely limited but there are two options, i.e. attempt to utilize side street or parking within the National Park at a price, or park at the Visitor Center and use the free shuttle which picks up and drops off visitors every 20 minutes.

This location is perfect for a day trip and is extremely child-friendly. Due to the amount of cobblestone streets, access to the Appalachian Trail and gravel pathways, a stroller is not recommended. Additionally, visitors should not overdress and wear some comfortable shoes.
