Whitehead Memorial Museum

In 1871, the Perry Store now known as the The Whitehead Memorial Museum was built in Del Rio, TX. The store was the largest mercantile store between San Antonio and El Paso. It is now known as Del Rio’s first museum and is over 150 years old.

The museum has tons of exhibits and hands on activities for children such as calf roping, bang and clang, dress up and tinker toys. The Jersey Lilly is Judge Bean’s famous saloon and courthouse. The City Hall exhibit represents the establish of Val Verde County in 1885. The Schoolhouse showcases Del Rio’s segregated school districts in 1890’s.

Every month, especially during the summer, the museum has a theme and weekly activities for children.
