Kuji is a city located on the coastal line in Iwate prefecture. There is a tourist train, the Tohoku Emotion, that travels along the coast, where you can enjoy a 3 or 5 course meal and enjoy the view is the Pacific Ocean. Since Kuji is the only city in Japan to produce amber, visiting the Kuji Amber Museum is a must-see. The museum is kid-friendly with outdoor and indoor exhibits, including an amber mine. Also, you have to visit the Kosode Ama Center, located along the sea wall, where female divers jump into the ocean to catch sea urchins using traditional fishing methods while traveling up to 10 meters with one breath. Lastly, while along the sea wall, you can view the Tsuriganedo Rocks made of granite formed by cooled magma over 100 million years ago.
